چکیده
Ensuring reliable operation of large power systems subjected to multiple outages is a challenging task because the combinatorial nature problem. Traditional approaches for security assessment are often limited by their scope and/or speed, resulting in missing critical contingencies that could lead cascading failures. This paper proposes two-component methodology enhance system security. The first component combines an efficient algorithm detect cut-set saturation (called feasibility test (FT) algorithm) with real-time contingency analysis (RTCA) create integrated corrective action (iCA), whose goal secure against as well branch overloads. second only employs results FT relaxed (rCA) post-contingency saturation. more comprehensive, but latter computationally efficient. effectiveness two components evaluated based upon number cascade triggering alleviated, and computation time. obtained analyzing different case-studies on IEEE 118-bus 2000-bus synthetic Texas indicate proposed successfully enhances speed during outages.

Optimal Location of FACTS Devices to Enhance Power System Security
This paper compares three heuristic methods (SA, TS and GA) applied to the optimal location of FACTS devices in a power system. The optimizations are made on three parameters: the location of the devices, their types and their sizes. The FACTS devices are located in order to enhance the system security. Five types of FACTS controllers are modeled for steady-state studies: TCSC, TCVR, TCPST, SVC...

In this paper, the performance of two types of FACTS devices in order to enhance the power system static voltage stability has been investigated. These devices include Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC). The modeling of the Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) and aforesaid devices has been made up in steady state mode with disregarding of the generator ...

Power system cyber security demand is escalating with the increased number of security incidents and the increased stakeholder participation in power system operations, specifically consumers. Rule-based cyber security is proposed for Distributed Network Protocol (DNP3) outstation devices, with a focus on smart distribution system devices. The security utilizes the DNP3 application layer functi...

The Effect of Power Outages and Cheap Talk on Willingness to Pay to Reduce Outages Using an open-ended contingent valuation survey, we analyze how (i) experience of a power outage due to one of the worst storms ever to hit Sweden and (ii) a cheap talk script affect respondents’ WTP to avoid power outages. Experience significantly increases and a cheap talk script decreases the proportion of res...

Determining whether power outages have significant fertility effects is an important policy question in developing countries, where blackouts are common and modern forms of family planning are scarce. Using birth records from Zanzibar, this study shows that a month-long blackout in 2008 caused a significant increase in the number of births 8 to 10 months later. The increase was similar across v...
